Restore peace in Israel – Palestine – IDPD

Ludhiana, October 13, 2023: The Indian Doctors for peace and Development (IDPD) organized a “Demonstration for Peace” today at Aarti Chowk, Ludhiana  and demanded immediate stop to violence between Israel and Palestine any escalation would have serious humanitarian consequences.  The recent violence has already killed thousands of people on both sides in a very short period. It is understandable that without resolving the long standing issue between the two there can be no lasting peace in the region. This is possible only through initiating dialogue at the behest of the UNO. The UN security council should immediately take cognizance of the humanitarian crisis and ensure immediate  cessation of violence by both parties.  As expected several countries of the world are getting drawn in the conflict. The decision of the US government to heavily arm Israel will only add to the escalation of humanitarian crises. The US should instead talk of peace. It is unfortunate that India’s Prime Minister has openly supported Israel. This is against the accepted policy of India for a peaceful settlement through Dialogue by ensuring legitimate rights of the Palestinians and for the peaceful co-existence of the people of Israel and Palestine. The Hindutva forces are using it as a anti Muslim rhetoric whereas there is no such thing in the Israel Palestine conflict. Such narrow approach is very dangerous and purposefully being done for electoral game by splitting the society on communal lines. This is casting a negative image of our country which has been the leader of Non Aligned Movement. The continued tension in the region has already witnessed death of 5590 Palestinians and 251 Israelis between 2008 to 2020 as per the data provided by the UNO. The siege of Gaza Strip by the Israel and blocking of supply of food, electricity, water and medicines etc. will have very grave consequences on the life of people in Gaza. It is therefore essential to establishment of a humanitarian corridor for safe passage of emergency services and aid including water, food, electricity and medicines.
