Renal Denervation Therapy successfully performed at DR RPGMC Tanda

Dharamsala, December 18, 2023: In a significant medical achievement, the Department of Cardiology and Anaesthesia at DR RPGMC Tanda, Himachal Pradesh, successfully performed "Renal Denervation Therapy, said  Dr. Bhanu Awasthi, the Principal of the Institute. He highlighted that this procedure is both challenging and crucial, with only nine cases performed across India before this  and now with this the second  case in North India, the total cases in india come up to 10. The procedure, introduced in March 2023 in India , aims to address resistant hypertension.

Dr Awasthi said that The medical team, including Dr. Mukul Bhatnagar, Dr. Ambudhar Sharma, Dr. Jai Singh (HOD Anaesthesia), Dr. Vipin Garg, Dr. Hemant Sharma, Dr. Swati Mahajan, and Dr. Akshay Partap Singh, performed the groundbreaking procedure on September 23, 2023. The patient, a 38-year-old male suffering from resistant hypertension, underwent Renal Denervation Therapy, a costly procedure amounting to around Rs. 6 lakhs. The treatment was conducted under the Himcare scheme, with assistance from the Chief Minister Relief Fund.
