“Cataracts develop when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, often due to aging or other factors such as diabetes, smoking, or prolonged exposure to sunlight. Over time, proteins in the lens break down, causing vision loss.”
Bathinda, April 18, 2024: “Cataracts develop when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, often due to aging or other factors such as diabetes, smoking, or prolonged exposure to sunlight. Over time, proteins in the lens break down, causing vision loss.”
Dr. Kashish Gupta an ophthalmologist at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Bathinda said that the main symptoms of cataracts are blurred or cloudy vision, difficulty seeing at night, sensitivity to light and glare, fading of colors, or yellowing, blurred shadows in one eye.
Talking about the treatment of cataract, Dr. Kashish said that cataract surgery is the most effective treatment for restoring clear vision and improving the quality of life. During the procedure, the white coating of the lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL). This outpatient surgery is safe, quick, and highly successful, with minimal recovery time, he informed.
Dr. Gupta also emphasized upon the importance of regular eye check-ups for early detection of cataracts. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to preserve vision and prevent complications, he maintained.
