Regency Superspecialty Hospital, Lucknow organizes awareness program for World Kidney Day

Lucknow - World Kidney Day (WKD) is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness about the importance of our kidneys’ health. It comes on 2nd Thursday of March every year; this year it was on 11th March. Regency Superspecialty Hospital which is known for its advanced nephrology and renal care organized the awareness program on the same keeping in mind the theme for this year “Living Well with Kidney Diseases”. In this program, the doctors explained how we can avoid kidney diseases and how to take care of them.

Dr Deepak Dewan, Nephrologist & Director Renal Sciences, Regency Superspecialty Hospital Lucknow said, “We should not be afraid of our kidney diseases, rather we should learn to live a quality life with it”. In Regency Hospital, we all always explain our patients and their relatives that they can stay healthy even after having kidney disease.  We also request our media friends to reach out to as many people as possible and share our message that “If you take care of your lifestyle & diet and follow doctors’ advice and prescription then you can slow down deterioration of kidney function and can lead a long, healthy and happy and productive life.”

People have limited knowledge and awareness about diabetes, which is the biggest cause of chronic kidney disease in India and world. Diabetes mismanagement leads to kidney failure and ultimately dialysis in few patients. Kidney failure is a condition in which the kidneys do not function properly, and are unable to filter waste products from the blood.

Dr Deepak added “In India, the number of kidney failure patients has doubled in the last 15 years. Therefore, we must spread awareness about kidney diseases. People should take a pledge to have a healthy lifestyle to take care of the kidneys. These include regular exercise/physical activity, eating healthy food with low salt content, avoiding oily or heavy food, controlling diabetes and blood pressure, quitting smoking and living a stress-free life. At Regency Superspecialty Hospital we have all the facilities available for kidney patients with new technology, including consultation by senior nephrologists, all investigations, counselors, dietician, dialysis with modern equipment and kidney transplantation”.
