Red Polka Productions in association with Black Book Media dedicates its new venture `Mein Mehmood’ to immigrants

Bangalore, May 12, 2022: UAE-based media company Black Book Media in association with Bangalore-based award-winning creative film production house Red Polka Productions, announced its new film, 'Mein Mehmood', a creative venture dedicated to hardworking immigrants the world over.
This collaboration marks a unique creative venture between production houses from these two countries.  The movie, which is being sent to most major film festivals around the world, empathises with immigrants who are unable to speak English as a lingua franca, a situation that leaves the protagonist in a difficult situation, leading to a deep identity crisis in people from the subcontinent.,
Sharing insights into the plot of the movie, Prataya Saha, Filmmaker, Mein Mehmood says, "The protagonist of the movie, Mehmood, is a simple middle-aged immigrant from the subcontinent who left for the Middle East to make out a living, just like many of his peers. Facing constraints in reading, writing and speaking the English language, Mehmood, who works as a tele-caller with a pandemic-hit tourism company, struggles to meet his monthly sales targets due to the lack of his conversational skills in lingua franca. Titled 'Mein Mehmood', meaning 'I am, Mehmood', it ironically points out the search for an identity in a radically changing world where one is unable to properly emote in words to a wider audience."
"Of course, the movie is not confined to the immigrants or people from non-English speaking countries; rather, the essence of the film is about human struggles in life and the eternal hunt for identity and individuality. The plot is relatable to people across religion, international boundaries, races and languages."
Speaking during the launch of Mein Mehmood, Ozair Abdul Aleem, the lead character in Mein Mehmood, said, “I was an immigrant in Dubai in the mid-90s. I spent a lot of time with the immigrants from the sub-continent who probably were like me but their challenges would be much more than mine. The people who'd live in sharing accommodations, commute in sharing taxis or abrahs (boat rides) just so that there'd be no extra expenses. Not much has changed till today. Mein Mehmood touches the very soul of what these people experience on a day-to-day basis and I could totally identify with the character. Anyone who's lived abroad and has struggled would definitely identify with this film.”
The treatment of the screenplay is unique with the dialogues of most of the auxiliary characters taking place over the phone. The movie will be released on a large OTT platform after making its presence felt across film festivals.
While Ozair Abdul Aleem plays the titular character, auxiliary characters are played by award-winning actor Anshulika Kapoor as his Wife and celebrity designer and founder of the 'House of Three' design house Sounak Sen Barat as a Customer.
