Red Cross Society of PCM S.D. College for Women holds Guest Lecture on Civic Awareness

Jalandhar, September 18, 2026: The Red Cross Society of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar organised a thought-provoking Guest Lecture on “First Aid, Voter Awareness and Personality Development: From Life-Saving Skills to Civic Responsibility”.

The session brought together three significant dimensions of responsible living: preparedness in times of emergency, awareness of democratic responsibilities, and the cultivation of a confident and well-rounded personality.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Surjit Lal, PhD in Psychology, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Branch Jalandhar, engaged the students in an insightful discussion on the practical relevance of First-aid knowledge. Emphasising that timely and appropriate intervention can prove crucial during emergencies, he highlighted essential life-saving skills and the importance of remaining calm, alert and responsible in critical situations.

Moving beyond emergency preparedness, Dr. Lal also sensitised the students to the significance of voter awareness and active citizenship. He encouraged them to understand the value of their electoral participation and to approach civic responsibilities with awareness, maturity and a sense of social accountability.

The lecture further addressed aspects of personality development, underscoring the role of confidence, communication, emotional awareness, responsible conduct and a positive outlook in shaping an effective personality.

The session offered students a meaningful convergence of life skills, civic consciousness and personal development, reinforcing the idea that education extends beyond academic achievement to preparing young women to respond responsibly to the needs of both individuals and society. Towards the end of the session our students, Kavya of B.A Semester V and Dipanshi of M.Com Semester V were awarded certificates of appreciation.

The programme demonstrated the institution’s commitment to holistic education under the visionary guidance of President, Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and Principal Dr. Pooja Prashar. They appreciated the efforts of Red Cross Society, its Incharge Shalini Bibra and their entire team. Their continued encouragement towards experiential learning, social responsibility and student empowerment provides an enabling environment in which such meaningful initiatives can translate education into informed action and responsible citizenship.
