Nawanshahr, December 23, 2021: In order to curb the flow of illicit liquor ahead of Assembly Elections-2022, three teams of the excise department have been working round the clock in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district since last fortnight under Red Alert Operation.

Disclosing further information, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal said that each team comprising three officials from the excise department along with police officials have been deployed in three of assembly constituencies.

He added that these joint teams have so far physically examined stock of 60-liquor vends in the district and checked CCTVs recordings, stock registers  besides also inspected four L-1 and eleven L-13 in SBS Nagar.

He said that till to date, all records have been found satisfactory in all these shops, four L-1 and eleven L-13.

Further, Sarangal said that these teams have also been checking hotels, Beer Bars, Dhabas, Rice Shellers, Marriage Palaces and other places to ensure proper surveillance.

Likewise, the teams have also registered four FIRs in separate incidents of seizing of 45- litre lahan from village Talwandi Sibu and illicit liquor from other locations, he said and added that cases have been lodged under section 61-1-14 of Excise Act.

He said that special dedicated checking points have been installed at all crucial spots, including wholesale depots, to ensure there is no illegal movement of liquor and no one is involved in any kind of malpractice.

Sarangal stated the district administration is committed to hold ensuing assembly elections in a free, fair and transparent manner in the district.

Deputy Commissioner said that these teams have been keeping a hawk-eye on the menace and directions have been issued to take strict action against the persons involved in the illicit liquor trade.
