Kapurthala, August 28, 2026: National Sports Day is being celebrated with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit at Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala.
The day is observed every year on August 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand and to underline the importance of sports and physical fitness in our lives.
As part of the celebrations, a friendly hockey match was played between RCF Hockey Academy and Sainik School Kapurthala at the RCF Astroturf Hockey Stadium. In an exciting and closely contested encounter, the RCF Hockey Academy emerged victorious with a 4–3 win.
Principal, Sainik School Kapurthala, Group Captain I. Manoj Menon, was the Chief Guest, while General Manager, RCF, Shri Ajay Nandan, graced the occasion as the Special Guest.
More than 250 students of Sainik School Kapurthala, along with a large number of sports lovers, former and current RCF players and sports enthusiasts, witnessed the thrilling match and encouraged the players.
On the occasion, several Olympians and international-level sportspersons of RCF, representing disciplines including hockey, athletics, basketball and wrestling, were felicitated for their outstanding contribution and achievements in their respective fields.
K. S. Asla, President, RCF Sports Association (RCFSA), along with members of RCFSA, senior officers and employees of RCF, was also present on the occasion.
The celebrations reflect RCF Kapurthala's continued commitment towards promoting sports, nurturing sporting talent and encouraging its employees and the younger generation to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle. Several other sporting and related events are also being organised as part of the National Sports Day celebrations.
