Rates increased at 2 sqft on all kinds of plywood in Punjab

Ludhiana, April 28, 2014: Prices of all kinds of faces used in manufacturing of plywood and plyboard has been increased at 2.50 to 3 (approx) per sq.ft generally by the main suppliers and specifically by suppliers from Burma. From bear, maximum suppliers are made to Punjab & Haryana units. Prices of other raw materials have also born up. Electricity rates have already been increased and there is shortage of labour also. Inderjit Singh Sohal, President and Vishal Juneja, Secretary General of Punjab Plywood Manufacturing Association (PPMA) said in a meeting here today that to avoid closures of plywood and ply-board industry, the sale rates have been increased at 2 sqft on all kinds of plywood with immediate effect.
They added Haryana plywood industry has already increased the prices.
Both Sohal and Juneja called upon the Central and State Government to intervene in the said matter to get reduced the rates of face and other raw material.
They also demanded that excise rates on plywood be reduced to 4% to save the industries.
