Amritsar: A 46-year-old patient from Saharanpur got a new lease of life after a successful treatment for a rare case of von hippel–lindau (VHL) syndrome associated with a type of deep seated brain tumour at Livasa Hospitals, Amritsar recently.
The patient reported severe headache, repeated episodes of projectile vomiting, difficulty in balance (ataxia), and blurred vision. MRI scans revealed a mass in the posterior fossa, diagnosed as cerebellar hemangioblastoma. Further evaluation confirmed the presence of Von Hippel–Lindau (VHL) Syndrome, a rare genetic condition.
Dr. Amanjot Singh Boparai Neurosurgeon at Livasa Hospital Amritsar performed a craniotomy with microsurgical excision using advanced neurosurgical technology. The surgery was carried out successfully in February, following which the patient showed significant neurological improvement. He was discharged on the seventh day post-surgery and is now leading a normal life.
Dr. Amanjot Singh said, “VHL-associated cerebellar hemangioblastomas are rare and technically demanding to manage due to their vascular nature and genetic background. Early diagnosis, meticulous microsurgery, and multidisciplinary care were keys to achieving a positive outcome for this patient.”
