Randhawa Questions Punjab Government’s “Delayed” Welfare Announcements, Demands Action on Law & Order and Drugs

Chandigarh, March 10, 2026: Senior Congress leader and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Tuesday sharply criticized the Government of Punjab, raising questions over the intent behind its recent budget announcements. He alleged that the government is ignoring the state’s fundamental problems.
Randhawa described the newly announced financial assistance scheme for women—under which women from the general category are proposed to receive ₹1,000 and Dalit women ₹1,500—as an attempt to “divert attention.” He said that no such assistance had been provided for four and a half years, and the sudden announcement now reflects the government’s political compulsion.
Speaking to the media, Randhawa said the people of Punjab will not be influenced merely by short-term financial aid, but are closely observing the overall situation in the state. He added that the government should first account for pending dues and unfulfilled promises.
The Congress MP also expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, the rising drug problem, and the growth of gangster culture. He said, without effective action on these issues, the future of Punjab’s youth cannot be secured.
Randhawa said that long-term policies and structural reforms are essential for the social and economic stability of Punjab, rather than financial announcements made only during the election period.
He also urged the state government to present a clear roadmap before the end of its current term to address the rising debt and improve the overall condition of the state.
