Rana Gurmit Singh, Congress MLA during his visit to Pakistan submits a memorandum to Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, demanding the opening of Hussaniwala Border.

Ferozepur, October 14, 2013: Rana Gurmit Singh, Congress MLA during his visit to Pakistan has met Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan and presented a memorandum for opening of Hussaniwala Border, who assured him to take up the matter with the Indian Government, said an official from his Guruharsahi office.
In fact, the Hussaniwala-Kasur route is the lifeline of traders dealing in dry fruits, clothes, vegetables and fruits but after its closure in 1971, the booming trade disappeared, entrepreneurs got discouraged and investment became a reluctant feature.  Even some of the businessmen shifted their base from Ferozepur to far off places.  Now the assurance from Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Pakistan has sparked a ray of hope for breaking barriers of border with trade, which will boost the economy of the entire Malwa Belt.
Ferozepur, which used to be a flourishing trade centre now lags behind Amritsar where the import and export between the two nations is through Wagah border route, despite the fact that Ferozepur has the shortest distance of say about 11 km from the international border.
No doubt, this issue has been raised umpteen times at various platforms and the Agra Summit had raised some hopes about the reopening of this border but the subsequent Kargil conflict and the attack on the Indian Parliament eclipsed these dreams.
Now with assurance by PM Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, both sides of the fence are likely to be benefitted immensely.  www.cityairnews.com
