Ramgarhia Girls College Organizes Essay Writing Competition on World Literacy Day

Ludhiana, September 8, 2026: The Departments of Punjabi and Hindi at Ramgarhia Girls College organized an essay writing competition to commemorate World Literacy Day. The competition aimed to sensitize students to the significance of literacy and to emphasize their role in fostering an educated, aware, and empowered society.
The students were invited to express their thoughts on a range of contemporary and thought-provoking topics, including “Education: The Foundation of an Empowered Society,” “Literate India, Empowered India,” “The Changing Dimensions of Literacy in the Digital Age,” and “Women’s Literacy: The Key to Development.”
Participants were given the choice to write their essays in Hindi, Punjabi, or English, providing them with an opportunity to articulate their ideas in the language of their preference. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students. Through their essays, they highlighted the far-reaching importance of literacy in promoting social awareness, educational advancement, individual empowerment, and national development. The entries were evaluated by the judges on the basis of content, originality, language, writing skills, and overall presentation. The event was conducted under the able guidance of Dr. Harbinder Kaur, Head, PG Department of Punjabi, and Prof. Mandeep Kaur, from the Department of Hindi.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ajit Kaur, Principal of the College, extended her warm wishes to the students on World Literacy Day. She emphasized that literacy extends far beyond the ability to read and write, describing it as a powerful instrument for developing awareness, self-reliance, confidence, and a sense of responsibility among individuals. She further encouraged the students to harness the transformative power of education and contribute meaningfully towards creating a more informed, inclusive, and progressive society.
