Ludhiana/Jalandhar, August 21, 2013: Festival of Raksha Bandhan was celebrated with great enthusiasm in all parts of the state, including Ludhiana and Jalandhar.  
Sisters tied sacred treat on wrists of their brothers. This is why this festival is called as the sacred bond of brother and sister.  
Raksha Bandhan is popularly known as rakhi.
In-fact, it is an ancient Vedic festival which is celebrated every year on the full moon day of the month of Shravan (August).
As a ritual, a sister ties a colourful rakhi around her brother's wrist. The festival starts by performing traditional “aarti” and concludes with prayers. Moreover, as a part of tradition, a brother presents his sister varied exciting gifts and vows to guide and protect her throughout the life. Interestingly, gifts play prominent role and symbolises tokens of love and affection.
