Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at a Sadbhavana Diwas programme at the Haryana Pradesh Congress headquarters on his birth anniversary.

Rohtak/Chandigarh, August 20, 2026: Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at a Sadbhavana Diwas programme at the Haryana Pradesh Congress headquarters on his birth anniversary.
Calling Rajiv Gandhi a builder of modern India, Hooda said his vision continued to influence the country’s development.
Hooda said Rajiv Gandhi’s 1984-89 tenure as Prime Minister laid the groundwork for advances in computers, information technology and telecommunications, besides major initiatives in education, Panchayati Raj and economic reforms.
“It is a matter of great privilege to have worked closely with Rajiv Gandhi, who laid the foundation for a self-reliant India in the 21st century,” Hooda said, adding that his vision and legacy would remain etched in the nation’s memory.
Hooda also recalled Rajiv Gandhi’s foreign policy initiatives, including the India-Sri Lanka accord, efforts to strengthen Maldives’ security and SAARC. He said his focus on youth, science and technology gave India a new direction.
Rajya Sabha MP Karmbir Baudh, MLAs Ashok Arora, Aftab Ahmed, Geeta Bhukkal, Balram Dangi, Chander Prakash and Induraj, besides several Congress leaders and workers, attended the programme.
