Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Kumar Sharma has directed police officers across Rajasthan to maintain heightened vigilance regarding law and order and ensure prompt, effective action in all situations.
Jaipur, Oct 14 (IANS) Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Kumar Sharma has directed police officers across Rajasthan to maintain heightened vigilance regarding law and order and ensure prompt, effective action in all situations.
During a review meeting on crime and law and order held at Police Headquarters on Wednesday, the DGP reviewed several key issues, including the timely disposal of pending cases, crime prevention, monitoring of sensitive incidents, preparations for the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections, and the conduct of police personnel. Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) from all ranges and Superintendents of Police (SPs) from all districts participated in the meeting via video conference.
Additional Directors General of Police (ADGs) and other senior police officers attended the meeting at Police Headquarters. DGP Sharma directed officers to identify cases involving contentious issues that could potentially disrupt law and order and prioritise their monitoring.
He instructed that lists of such cases be prepared and regularly reviewed at police station, circle, and district levels. He also emphasised the need for timely coordination with relevant departments, including the Revenue and Forest Departments, to resolve disputes.
Officers were directed to use mediation, preventive measures, and other appropriate legal remedies to prevent local disputes from escalating into serious law-and-order situations.
Taking serious note of instances involving police personnel allegedly engaged in criminal activities, the DGP directed officers to identify and monitor such personnel and initiate appropriate action in accordance with the rules.
He stressed that police personnel deployed at police stations and in the field must maintain sensitive, courteous, and cooperative behaviour towards the public. Officers were also instructed to hear complainants regularly and ensure the timely resolution of their grievances.
In view of recent incidents, the DGP directed senior officers to ensure effective supervision of sensitive and serious cases. He emphasised the immediate reporting of such incidents to senior authorities, prompt and appropriate action based on verified facts, and the timely dissemination of factual information through the press and social media.
He made it clear that negligence in matters relating to law and order would not be tolerated. Responsibility would be fixed at every level, and action would be taken against those found guilty in accordance with the rules.
The DGP directed officers to ensure the time-bound disposal of pending cases at police stations. He instructed the respective SPs to review cases pending for more than one year and Range IGs to review cases pending for over three years. He called for effective action plans to expedite the disposal of old cases, pending charge sheets, and Final Reports (FRs).
Officers were also directed to review pending cases regularly and remove procedural or other obstacles delaying their resolution.
The DGP instructed districts that had recorded an increase of more than five per cent in cases registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to analyse crime trends and prepare effective action plans. Districts recording comparatively low numbers of cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were directed to intensify efforts and take effective action against drug-related offences.
Similarly, districts witnessing a significant increase in crimes against women were instructed to examine the underlying causes and formulate concrete strategies to address the trend. The meeting also reviewed districts showing low enforcement activity under local and special laws, as well as the NDPS Act. Officers were directed to take corrective measures and improve enforcement.
To ensure the peaceful conduct of the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections and festivals, the DGP directed all districts to prepare comprehensive police deployment plans and maintain heightened vigilance in sensitive areas. Officers were instructed to identify anti-social elements and take preventive action, intensify regular patrolling, and ensure effective police checkpoints (nakabandi).
They were also directed to maintain a visible police presence and continuous monitoring in sensitive areas during the festival period. The DGP further emphasised the need to ensure the field presence of Kalika patrolling units during festivals.
He urged officers to prioritise public safety, police accountability, and public trust while maintaining constant oversight of law and order in their respective jurisdictions.
DGP Sharma directed police personnel to use body cameras during checkpoint operations to promote transparency, accountability, and professionalism. He also emphasised strict enforcement of traffic regulations and appropriate action against traffic violations.
The DGP stressed the importance of prompt action in cybercrime cases and directed officers to ensure the registration of Zero FIRs wherever applicable, so that jurisdictional issues do not delay the initiation of legal proceedings or access to justice for victims.
He called upon all officers to remain alert, strengthen supervision, improve police responsiveness, and take timely and effective action to maintain law and order throughout Rajasthan.
