Ferozepur, October 8, 2026: The Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a Senior Section Engineer posted in the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) office for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000.
The accused, Pankaj Kumar, was arrested following a complaint by Hardeep Singh, a resident of Jhok Harihar village, who alleged that the official had demanded money for facilitating the transfer of a court-ordered payment from the salary account of another railway employee.
As per information, Hardeep had given Rs 4 lakh to Amit Kumar, a railway employee residing at Quarter No. 10 near the Running Room, close to the Cantonment railway station, through a promissory note. After Amit failed to repay the amount within the stipulated period, Hardeep approached the court.
The VB said Civil Judge Amandeep Kaur Rathore, in an order dated July 30, 2026, directed that one-third of Amit Kumar’s salary be transferred every month from his Punjab National Bank account at Sadar Bazar, Ferozepur Cantonment, to Hardeep’s account.
Hardeep alleged that Pankaj Kumar demanded Rs 50,000 for facilitating the transfer of the court-ordered amount. The demand was later settled at Rs 40,000.
The VB said that based on the complaint, a recording of the alleged demand and other evidence, a trap was laid and Pankaj Kumar was arrested while allegedly accepting Rs 40,000 in bribe.
A case under FIR No. 22 has been registered against the accused and further investigation is underway.
