Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala wins 74th All India Railway (Men's) Hockey Championship

Kapurthala, March 19, 2016: Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala emerged winner in 74th All India Railway (Mens)Hockey Championship which concluded here at RCF Astroturf Hockey Stadium.

In the final which was the repeat of last year finals, the spirited RCF team defeated defending champions Western Railway, Mumbai 3-2. The match was leveled 1-1 at the close of second half. RCF opened its account through a field goal by Gagandeep Singh in the 58th minute. Amit of W.Rly brought equalizer through a penalty corner seven minutes later. The result was decided by penalty shoot out in which Sanjay Bir and Captain Gurpreet Singh converted for RCF, while Manjinder Singh scored the lone goal for Mumbai team. RCF’s goalkeeper Jugraj Singh put up a brave hearted show in the final.

Sh.Hemant Kumar presided over the Prize Distribution Ceremony and distributed the prizes to the participants and lauded the efforts of RCF in providing excellent sports infrastructure. On the occasion , Sh. R P Nibariya, General Manager/RCF,all Officers, Smt.Savita Nibariya,President RCFWWO, Officials from Railway Promotion Sports Board, Members of various unions and associations were present, besides thousands of sports lovers.

The Championship was held in league phases at RCF and Bhopal and four teams each from the league phase participated here at Knock-out stage. RCF made into the final by defeating South Eastern Railway,Kolkatta in the Quarter Final and Central Railway in the Semi Final besides topping in the league stage at RCF played from 07.03.2016 to 11.03.2016.

RCF is the proud owner of excellent sports infrastructure and has Indian Railways Hockey Academy which was set up last year to provide training to players of Indian Railway Hockey team. / (Rajat Kumar)
