Rohtak, August 27, 2026: On National Sports Day, Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHSR), Rohtak, hosted ‘Khelo India Samvad – Khel Ki Baat, PM Ke Saath’ on Thursday, with Vice-Chancellor Dr H.K. Aggarwal, urging youngsters to cut down screen time and take up sports.
Speaking after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual address, Dr Aggarwal said sports were not merely about winning but also about character-building and nation-building. Citing Major Dhyan Chand as an inspiration, he said discipline, fitness and patriotism were essential qualities for the youth.
He stressed that health and sports were closely linked, noting that while modern medicine could treat diseases, regular sports, exercise, yoga and a disciplined lifestyle played a key role in preventing them.
Dr Aggarwal said lifestyle-related disorders such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and mental stress were on the rise. He urged every student to participate in at least one sport, saying games teach discipline, teamwork, leadership, resilience after defeat and humility in success.
Lauding the Prime Minister’s sports vision, he said initiatives such as Khelo India had created a positive sporting environment and helped talent from villages and small towns reach national and international platforms.
DSW and programme organiser Dr Savita Singhal welcomed the guests, while Dr Manjunath B.C.,(In-charge of the Public Relations Department), conducted the programme. Dr Vipin Gharsa highlighted its objectives and Dr Madhu Sharma proposed the vote of thanks.
Registrar Dr Roop Singh, Director Dr S.K. Singhal, Dean Academic Affairs Dr M.G. Vashisht, Principal Dr Manu Rathi and a large number of students attended the event.
Olympian Ashok Garg, Para Table Tennis Champion Isha Khassa Honoured
Olympian, Arjuna Awardee and Bhim Awardee wrestler Ashok Kumar Garg and international para table tennis champion Isha Khassa, a gold medallist at the 2015 Special Olympics, shared their sporting experiences with students. Both athletes were honoured with mementoes by the health varsity.
