Chandigarh, July 28, 2026: Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over the deteriorating law and order situation and the shortage of police personnel in Punjab. He alleged that the true state of Punjab's policing has been exposed by an AAP Member of Parliament himself.
Randhawa said it is deeply concerning that Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal had to publicly appeal for the surrender of his own security cover. According to Randhawa, Seechewal himself acknowledged that police stations in his constituency do not have adequate police personnel. If even MPs from the ruling party are admitting to a shortage of police force, he said, it is the strongest evidence of the Punjab government's failure.
Randhawa further alleged that Punjab's law and order situation has already been severely affected by the rising incidence of crime. At such a time, he claimed, the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has deployed a large number of Punjab Police personnel in Delhi to please its political leadership there. This, he said, is directly impacting law and order in Punjab. Crime is increasing, while the police lack sufficient manpower, adversely affecting the safety and security of ordinary citizens.
He said that ensuring public safety is the government's foremost responsibility, but the AAP government is compromising the state's security by prioritizing political interests. He demanded that the government immediately address the shortage of police personnel in all police stations, ensure adequate police deployment across Punjab, and take effective measures to strengthen law and order. He warned that if the government fails to act with the seriousness the situation demands, the entire state will have to face serious consequences.
