Ludhiana, September 23, 2025: While Punjab reels under devastating floods, the situation in Sahnewal constituency’s flood-hit villages—especially Sasarali and other settlements along the Sutlej river—continues to worsen. Punjab’s Minister for Disaster Management Hardeep Singh Mundian has failed to protect his own constituency, said BJP Punjab spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal.
Baliawal stated that breaches in the Dhussi embankment caused by the Sutlej have inflicted heavy losses in the Sahnewal area. “Earlier floods had already swept away nearly 450 acres of crops and farmland, and more land is eroding every day,” he said. Residents have tried to construct a new embankment with the administration’s help, but conditions remain critical. “The Sutlej’s relentless force is eating into farmland daily, yet the MLA-cum-minister seems more focused on covering up his failures than addressing the crisis,” Baliawal added.
He further noted that villagers’ own efforts to save their land are proving insufficient because the soil has weakened at many points. “Given the deteriorating situation, the people of the constituency demand that a specialized team be assigned to strengthen the embankments and protect their farmland. This is vital not only for Sahnewal but also to safeguard Ludhiana—Punjab’s largest city—from flooding,” Baliawal urged.
Present on the occasion were Sarpanch Karam Singh of Sasarali, Jassi of Gaonsgarh (Sarpanch), Karam Chand of Mangat (Sarpanch), former Sarpanch Kapoor Singh, Gurmukh Singh (President, Sasarali Gurdwara), Sukhwinder Singh of Gaonsgarh, Budh Singh of Rodh Gurdwara, and other local residents.
