Ludhiana, October 9, 2025: Members and office-bearers of the Punjabi Sahit Academy, Ludhiana, have expressed profound sorrow over the sudden demise of eminent scientist and author Dr. Fakir Chand Shukla.
Academy President Dr. Sarbjit Singh said that besides being a scientist, Dr. Shukla was a prolific writer in Hindi, Punjabi, and English. He was among the distinguished writers honoured by the Punjabi Sahit Academy, Ludhiana. In December 2024, he received an award from the Punjab Language Department for his outstanding children’s book “Safalta Kadam Chumegi”. Over the years, he earned numerous other literary honours and recognitions.
Senior Vice President Dr. Pal Kaur recalled that Dr. Shukla’s language, style, and subjects were highly suitable for young readers. “He had a unique ability to simplify complex scientific ideas and make them accessible to children,” she said.
General Secretary Dr. Gulzar Singh Pandher expressed personal grief, noting his long association with Dr. Shukla during their tenure at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). “He was a humble and thoughtful individual who approached writing from a scientific perspective. His satirical writings, in particular, will always be remembered,” Dr. Pandher said. “His passing is a deep loss to both science and literature.”
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Shukla, who had been battling cancer for a long time, retired as Professor of Food Technology from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. His contribution to literature and science will be remembered with great respect and affection.
