Ludhiana, July 27, 2026: Senior leader and former councillor Parminder Mehta has alleged that Punjab has turned into a state of continuous protests due to the "failure" of the state government. Holding the Bhagwant Mann government responsible for the hardships faced by the public because of ongoing strikes by electricity employees, DC office staff, Local Bodies Department sanitation workers, Suvidha Centre employees, MGNREGA workers, teachers, lawyers, Roadways employees and several other government workers, Mehta expressed serious concern over the prevailing situation.
Expressing his anger, Mehta said that the strike by electricity employees has caused severe inconvenience to businesses, daily wage earners and especially homemakers in Ludhiana, an industrial hub. He also pointed out that sanitation workers across Punjab have gone on strike in protest against the alleged lathi-charge on sanitation workers in Barnala.
Mehta warned that if the situation is not brought under control immediately, the state could face a serious sanitation crisis, with garbage piling up across Punjab. He further said that strikes at DC offices, MGNREGA offices and Suvidha Centres are likely to disrupt almost all government and semi-government services.
Appealing to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Mehta urged the government to take immediate and effective steps to end the ongoing strikes and protests by government employees and restore normalcy in the state.
