Punjab to showcase potential and achievements of technical institutions in Technical Education Summit

Chandigarh, February 3, 2014: The Punjab Government is organising ‘Technical Education & Skill Development Summit 2014’ to enhance the availability of skilled manpower in the state.
The summit is being organised by Department of Technical Education & Industrial Training and would be held at the Indoor Sports Complex, Mohali on February 8. The summit would be inaugurated by Prakash Singh Badal, Chief Minister, Punjab and Madan Mohan Mittal, Minister-in-charge Department of Technical Education & Industrial Training would be the Guest of Honour.   
Addressing a press conference to announce the summit, Mittal said that “We wish to showcase the quality initiatives taken by the Department to promote technical education in Punjab at this summit. Besides, it should also serve as the perfect platform for exhibiting the potential and achievements of technical institutions in the state. We intend making Punjab a global hub of higher education such that it attracts investment and students from other states and countries. This has been our long-term endeavor.”  Dr. Rajneesh Arora, Vice Chancellor, PTU, also addressed the media and added that, “The state has all the wherewithal required to emerge as a winner on the global higher education map and such summits shall help this cause. We, as one of the leading technical education universities, support its objectives wholeheartedly. We have been laying stress on greater industry-academia collaboration, entrepreneurship and placements. We shall highlight all of this at the forthcoming summit.”  
The inaugural session of the Summit would be attended by various dignitaries and students from different PTU affiliated colleges across Punjab besides technical universities from other states. This would be followed by a detailed session on challenges and opportunities in the field of technical education.
The Summit organisers have invited participation from University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Technical Education Council (AICTE), National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PHDCCI), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), National Association of Software & Services Companies (NASSCOM), Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) and The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) as well.
Prominent among others who were present in the press conference included A.R. Talwar, Principal Secretary Technical Education, Rakesh Verma, Secretary Technical Education, B.
