Punjab seeks recommendations for Padam awards

Chandigarh, May 23, 2014: The Punjab Government has invited recommendations for the ‘Padam Awards’ from departments. These coveted awards would be announced at the National celebrations of the Republic Day on January 26, 2015 at New Delhi.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state government said that the departments have been asked to forward the recommendations not later than June 22, 2014 to General Administration Department (Political Branch-1). He said that the recommendations thus received would further be forwarded to the Union Government for final selection.
The spokesperson further said that amongst the highest civilian awards of the country, the Padam Awards i.e. ‘Padam Vibushan’, ‘Padam Bhushan’ and ‘Padam Shri’ were instituted in 1954. These awards seeks to recognize ‘work of distinction’ and is given for distinguished and exceptional achievements/service in all fields/disciplines such as Art, Literature & Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade and Industry etc.
He said that the Punjab Government has issued a circular to all Deputy Commissioners, Divisional Commissioners and Administrative Secretaries that the nominations are to be sent in the prescribed Performa, in addition to the bio data, a detailed write up (citation) in narrative form, clearly bringing out the distinguished and exceptional achievements/service of the person recommended in his/her respective field/discipline has to be provided in each case.  Spokesperson said that the cut-off date would be strictly adhered to as recommendations received after it, will not be considered.
