Ludhiana, September 16, 2014: Ravneet Singh Bittu, Member Parliament from Ludhiana has been elected by Lok Sabha to serve as a Member on board of Indian Council of Agriculture Research Society (I.C.A.R Society), under Ministry of Agriculture. The mandate of society is to promote, aid, and coordinate agricultural and animal husbandry education, research and its applications in practice, development and marketing in India.
This nomination will help me in communicating the various issues concerning the farmers of our state and the problems being faced by them to the Government of India and will help in a speedy remedial measures of their grievances, said Ravneet Singh Bittu.
Ravneet further added that being an agrarian state the economy of the state is closely interlinked with agrarian economy. Given the present state of affairs in the state a lot is needed to be done to improve the various sectors of agriculture and animal husbandry and there is a need to make our farmers aware about rapidly changing global scenario of agriculture.  
It is pertinent to mention here that the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), New Delhi, India is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture. It has 47 institutes, 4 National Bureaus and 26 National Research Centres and 11 Project Directorate spread across the country. In addition to this it provides financial support to Universities engaged in the field of Agriculture research all over India.
The ICAR has played a role in enabling the country to increase the production of foodgrains by four, horticultural crops by six, fish by nine (marine five and inland 17, milk six times and eggs 27 times since 1950.
