Ludhiana, September 26, 2025: Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal held a meeting today at its office located at Mata Rani Chowk, attended by senior trade representatives including District President Parveen Goyal, District Chairman Pawan Lehar, State General Secretary Sunil Mehra, State Secretary Ayush Aggarwal, District General Secretary Parveen Sharma, and Ashwani Mahajan.
Speaking at the meeting, the trade leaders noted that the implementation of GST 2.0 from September 22 has brought significant positive changes in markets across the state. “New avenues of trade and fresh customer opportunities have opened up for small traders. Market activity has revived, and we expect at least 10% growth in business by Diwali compared to last year,” they said.
The leaders also welcomed the relief measures announced by the Central Government to address the challenges of GST compliance and the prevailing slowdown in trade, calling it a positive step towards boosting business confidence.
At the same time, the delegation flagged two critical concerns that need immediate government attention: Safeguarding Consumers – The GST Department must ensure that after exemptions, basic rates are not arbitrarily increased to exploit customers; and, Inverted Duty Structure – In several cases, input tax is levied at 18% while output tax remains at 5%, causing the inverted duty gap to rise from 6% to 13%. While the government has promised the release of the first installment of input refunds next month, traders in this category will still face bureaucratic hurdles and increased costs.
The leaders also suggested that the refunds should be structurally processed on GSTN avoiding any bureaucratic visits.
