Punjab Pollution Control Board Organizes Workshop on Waste Tyre Management and Resource Recovery under WCEF 2026 at CICU

Ludhiana, August 28, 2026: The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), under MoEF&CC, Government of India, is organizing the 10th World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF 2026) on 15th–16th September at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on the theme “Circular Economy Transition for People and Prosperity.”
As part of the pre-event activities, CPCB has called for programmes on “Driving Circularity: Advancing Waste Tyre Management through EPR and Resource Recovery”, aligned with the Mission LiFE theme “Reduce Waste.” Accordingly, a workshop on the above theme was organized by the Punjab Pollution Control Board, Zonal Office-1, Ludhiana, at CICU, Ludhiana, on 27.08.2026.
The workshop was presided over by R.K. Ratra, Chief Environmental Engineer, Ludhiana, and was attended by representatives of formal and informal waste tyre recyclers, industry representatives and other stakeholders.
Vicky Bansal, Environmental Engineer, Head Office, Patiala, delivered a detailed presentation on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registration, covering its requirements, applicability and importance in ensuring environmentally sound management and resource recovery from waste tyres.
Ratandeep Singh Swani, representative of M/s Swani Rubber Industries, Mohali, shared good practices adopted by his industry for effective waste tyre management and resource recovery. Dr. Anoop Verma, Head of Environment, Thapar Institute, Patiala, highlighted the responsibilities of industries towards environmental protection and sustainable practices.
The workshop provided an effective platform for interaction among Board officials, recyclers and other stakeholders and emphasized EPR compliance, resource recovery and adoption of circular economy principles in waste tyre management.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by R.K. Ratra, Chief Environmental Engineer, Ludhiana, who appreciated the participation and cooperation of all stakeholders. The workshop was attended by Senior Environmental Engineers, Environmental Engineers and other subordinate staff of PPCB posted at Ludhiana, along with representatives of formal and informal waste tyre recyclers and other stakeholders.
