Khanna, Ludhiana, February 23, 2026: Punjab Police has initiated the Rural Visit Programme in Police District Khanna to establish direct contact with citizens and further strengthen the war against drugs and crime. Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia personally led the initiative by visiting the village Kauri and interacting openly with residents in a cordial atmosphere.
During the interaction, the SSP assured villagers that they could approach her directly with any concerns or grievances. The revival of rural visits, which had been discontinued for a considerable time, is being regarded as a commendable and progressive step.
Detailed Briefing on “War Against Drugs” and “Operation Prahar”
The SSP provided detailed information about the ongoing campaigns “War Against Drugs” and “Operation Prahar,” emphasizing that making Khanna Police District drug-free and crime-free is a top priority. She appealed to the residents to actively support the police in combating drug trafficking and criminal activities, stating that it is the duty of every responsible citizen to stand against such social evils.
Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia specifically encouraged villagers to share information about criminal elements active in rural areas and assured them that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
Villagers Pledge Not to Support Drug Offenders
An important issue was also raised during the meeting—villagers collectively assured that if anyone is caught involved in drug trafficking, no one from the village would come forward to secure their bail. This collective commitment is being viewed as a strong grassroots message against drug abuse.
Directions to All Gazetted Officers
The SSP informed that rural visits were earlier conducted under the Punjab Police Rules and have now been formally revived. Instructions have been issued to all gazetted officers to visit village chaupals in their respective jurisdictions to maintain direct contact with the public.
She stated that drugs and crime cannot be eliminated through police action alone. Active cooperation from all sections of society—including panchayats, youth, women, and elders—is essential. Under this initiative, village-wise action plans will be prepared to systematically address drug de-addiction and crime prevention.
Positive Response from Villagers
Residents of Village Kaudi appreciated the SSP’s initiative. Village Sarpanch Jagdeep Kaur remarked that it was the first time such a senior officer had personally visited the village chaupal to engage directly with the people. She added that when senior police officials listen to citizens at the grassroots level, public trust becomes stronger.
Villagers assured full cooperation with Khanna Police in the anti-drug campaign and pledged to make their village drug-free. Youth representatives also stated that they would promote sports and healthy activities to keep young people away from substance abuse.
Overall, the revival of rural visits and the field presence of SSP Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia have significantly strengthened police–public relations in Khanna. The initiative goes beyond routine legal enforcement and represents a strong step toward eliminating drugs and crime through active community participation. It marks the beginning of renewed trust and cooperation in Khanna district, with promising results expected in the coming time.
