Ludhiana, May 26, 2014: Punjab Plywood Manufacturers Association (PPMA) held its general house meeting here today, in which all the leading plywood manufacturers of Punjab participated.
Ashok Juneja (Chairman – PPMA) and Inderjit Singh Sohal (President – PPMA) said that electricity rates in Punjab should not be increased by virtue of which cost of manufacturing will go up and the costly goods will not be able to compete the prices prevailing in other states causing adverse effect to Punjab’s industry. In case as proposed by Punjab government 10% electricity rates are increased once again w.e.f. June 1 this year, then industry will be compelled to raise rates of ply by Re.1 per square feet to avoid the losses.
They said that market committee fee is not payable on Poplar/Safeda wood purchased directly from farmers by cutting standing trees. The said decision was given by Chief Minister, Punjab Prakash Singh Badal on January 11 last year in a meeting in which Surjit Jayani (Forest Minister), Ajmer Singh Lakhowal (Chairman, Punjab Mandi Board) & Deepinder Singh (Secretary, Punjab Mandi Board), D.S.Bains(Financial Commissioner Forest), D.P.Reddy (IAS) and H.S.Gujral (IFS) were also present. Now the decision should be followed and notices issued by DFO Hoshiarpur be revoked.
They demanded from Arun Jaitley, the newly inducted Finance Minister in the Union Cabinet to either exempt the excise duty fully on ply or be reduced to 2% 04 4% by creating special category of Agro-based plywood industry.
They further said that income tax rates be reduced to 10% on income upto Rs.10 lakh & 20% on above Rs.10 lakh by virtue of which revenue of government will increase. They said that under section 68-69 of Income Tax Act whosoever desire to declare voluntarily income and pat tax should not be asked to give any explanation or detail as the law previously prevailed before amendment of said section.
