Punjab Pensioners denied pensions, asked to resubmit digital life certificates at the portal

Ludhiana, May 14, 2026: Thousands of Punjab Government pensioners, some in their nineties sitting abroad with their children, are a harassed lot. Though such pensioners have already submitted their respective life certificates to the bank branches, yet all the pensioners are again asked to upload their Digital Life Certificates and KYCs at Punjab Government pension portal. It has now been made mandatory to other service pensioners of Punjab. At one place Punjab Government asks NRIs to invest in Punjab, but on other hand it is torturing their parents who served government job in Punjab earlier.
“This unnecessary dictum of Punjab merely is harassment to the aged pensioners as majority are not tech savvy and Punjab Govt’s own App is not user friendly too. Further, there is the issue of receiving OTPs at mobile numbers overseas. There is no need for duplication of work as asked by the Punjab Government. They must rely on yearly life certificates already given on banks and also uploaded by banks on government portal”, said Brij Bhushan Goyal, a senior citizen.
Certain banks like PNB and SBI are yet to release pensions of many pensioners of Punjab Government due to non-submission of digital life certificates again. Banks are also lax in uploading the life certificates on government portals and there is no coordination with the Punjab Government in the matter. Government instead of easing thing is only complicating things for aged pensioners, said Goyal.
