Chandigarh, December 17, 2013: Punjab Government has launched a vaccination campaign across the state to effectively control foot and mouth disease (FMD) in livestock. This campaign would continue till the end of December.
Disclosing this here today Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister, Punjab Gulzar Singh Ranike said that Punjab Government has also taken timely measures in order to check the break of diseases in animals so as to provide a healthy livestock in the state. As a part of the ongoing actions, the state government regularly launches vaccination campaigns, said the minister.
It is mentioned here that foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is one of the most infectious disease in livestock because it rapidly transmits among wide ranges of species, and often leading to a decline in meat and milk production in dairy cattle.
Ranike also said that the vaccinations would be provided to the livestock owners door to door by the field officers of Animal Husbandry Department and directions have also been issued to the concerned veterinary officers to use new vaccination. Besides live stock owners could contact nearest animal Husbandry Institution staff for vaccination injections.
He further said that Punjab Government has taken FMD under the ambit of Right to Service Act. It has been made time bound in the interest of the animals as well as the livestock owners, he added.
