Ludhiana, November 26, 2013: In a bid to ensure smooth and hassle free traffic in the state's biggest Industrial town Ludhiana, the state Government has spent about Rs. 116 crore to strengthen the road infrastructure during last three years.

Disclosing this here today Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana Rajat Aggarwal said that administration was fully committed to realise the state government's dream to develop Ludhiana as a pollution free city. Under a prestigious programme initiated in 2010, the entire road network across the city had been strengthen in a planned manner through widening of various existing roads, besides construction of new roads and expansion of bridges to tackle the rapidly increasing vehicular traffic. The Deputy Commissioner informed that the traffic problem in the central part of the city had been resolved with the construction of Gill Chowk and Partap Chowk flyovers, besides up ramps at Jagraon Bridge and Gill Chowk.

Giving the further details of the works, Aggarwal said that a stretch of 4.5 km Ferozpur road which is second busiest road in Asia, had been widened from Sidhwan canal point to MC limits at a cost of Rs. 40 crores and Rs. 19 crores has spent on the construction of small bridges and a slip road along with Buddah Nallah. Likewise, to facilitate the pedestrians, footpaths and under paths had also been constructed around District Courts and Secretariat sites. He said that about 70 percent of the work had been completed and remaining would be completed shortly.

Aggarwal also added that district administration was setting up signage boards at various points in city to properly guide the public. He also appealed the general public to obey the traffic rules and cooperate with the administration to make this highly populated industrial town clean green and pollution free.
