Punjab News/Lok Adalats held across Punjab

Chandigarh, November 23, 2013: The National Lok Adalat for settlement of cases at all levels from Supreme Court to Civil Courts was scheduled to be held on November 23 throughout the country. Today, the inaugural programme was chaired by the Chief Justice of India being Patron-in-Chief of National Legal Services Authority and the live Web Telecast of the inaugural programme across the country was relayed.
Justice S.S.Saron being Chairman of High Court Legal Services Committee, other Presiding Judges of Permanent Lok Adalats, Registrar General along with other Officers attended the inaugural programme in Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh. After the inaugural session, three Benches of Daily Lok Adalat conducted the proceedings in the High Court premises despite the fact that today being Saturday was a holiday.
In total, 229 number of cases were finally disposed of today in the National Lok Adalat and a compensation of `1,02,41,000 was disbursed.
