Punjab News/Badal constitutes three member expert panel to review crop diversification in state

Chandigarh, November 26, 2013: In order to evaluate the progress of ongoing Agricultural diversification program in the state and suggest further changes in this flagship programme to make it far more result oriented and meaningful, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has constituted an expert committee under the Chairmanship of Chairman Farmers Commission Dr. GS Kalkat.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that the committee has been constituted to monitor the outcome and experiences of the current diversification program across the state under which, the Union Agriculture and Cooperation Ministry has allotted Rs 224.50 crore out of the total outlay of Rs 500 crore earmarked for original green revolution states of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to promote crop diversification during the current financial year. The committee headed by Dr GS Kalkat would have Vice Chancellors of Punjab Agriculture University and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Dr. Baldev Singh Dhillon and Dr VK Taneja respectively as members. The Committee would also provide vital inputs for preparing a roadmap besides scaling up the investments in its mission for Agricultural diversification in Punjab.
