Amritsar, September 25, 2013: The State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) has arrested one Tarwinder Singh s/o Gurnam Singh r/o village Kakkar Tarin, PS Lopoke, district Amritsar, who was acting as a spy for Pakistani agencies and recovered a Pakistan SIM card, photographs of restricted areas, restricted army manuals and a hand-made sketch of military installations.
According to Ashwani Kumar, AIG, SSOC, Amritsar the spy Tarwinder Singh was arrested on basis of specific information by a special team of SSOC from the Attari road, near the Wagah border and an FIR 6 dated 24-9-2013, u/s 3, 4 & 9 Official Secrets Act, 120-B IPC has been registered at police station State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
He said that the preliminary questioning of arrested person has revealed that he was unemployed youth who had first gone to Dubai in 2010 in search of employment but returned after a year. He went to Pakistan in April 2013 as part of Jatha and spent 10 days there. While in Pakistan, he was recruited by a Pakistani official using the code name of Rao Sahib by allurement of money. A Pakistan SIM card was handed over to him. He was directed to find out about movement of army units in Amritsar and DBN Sectors, construction of new bunkers on Indian side of the border, arrange photographs of army vehicles along with their formation signs, Army exercises and trainings and about any new activity/construction on the Attari road.
The AIG said that the arrested person was being produced in court where his police remand for further questioning was being sought. Further investigations are ongoing.
