Nawanshahr, September 13, 2013: Taking a leap forward towards generating power from New and Renewable Sources of energy, the SBS Nagar district was generating 3.5 million units per annum through its Solar Power plants.

Divulging the details, here today, Deputy Commissioner Tanu Kashyap said that Four solar power plants have been commissioned in the district. She said that a 200 KW solar power plant at Khatkar Kalan, 100 KW at Raja Sahib Nabh Kanwal, 1.0 MW at Mehandipur (Near Kathgarh) and 1.5 MW at Sahiba (Near Majari) had been commissioned and were generating three Lakh, 1.5 lakh and 3 million (From Both Mehndipur and Sahiba) units per annum respectively. Sahiba Solar Power Plant had been installed recently, she further said.

She further told that the solar power plant at Mehandipur and Sahiba included among the Nine Solar Power plants of state, having capacity of 10.50 MW solar power generation and supplying power to PSPCL under purchase agreement.

Apart from that, an amount of Rs 29 lakh had been given as subsidy to promote other solar power based projects including Solar Water Heating Systems, Solar Street Lights, Solar Cookers Bio-Energy based Bio-Gas Plants in the district.

Giving further details, Deputy Commissioner said that as many 279 solar street lights had been installed in the district at a toatl subsidy of Rs 9 lakh. Villages like Aur, Uraparr, Guraparr and Chak Dana had got major benefit from these solar street lights scheme. A subsidy of Rs 3240 has been given per street light, she added.

Likewise, as many as 7100 litre per day total capacity of Solar Water Heaters had been installed at a total subsidy of Rs 468600 with subsidy amount of Rs 6600 per heater. Moreover, to promote Bio-fuel for kitchens, as many as 195 Bio-Gas Plants had been installed in the district at a subsidy of Rs 8000 per plant. A total of Rs 15.60 lakh has been disbursed as subsidy amount to the beneficiaries, Deputy Commissioner went on add.
