Punjab News- Punjab submits project report of Rs. 3327 crore for water logging problem: Sekhon

Chandigarh, October 8, 2013: The Punjab Government has submitted a project report of Rs. 3327 crore before the planning commission for the eradication of the water logging menace from the sate. The state level committee by the Punjab Government has submitted its report within record time of 27 days.

This was disclosed by Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Irrigation Minister, Punjab while presiding over a high level meeting of department here today.

Sekhon said that a state level committee was constituted under the chairmanship of B.S. Dhaliwal, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Technical Advisor to Chief Minister, in which Chief Engineers of all the departments were inducted as members.

Sekhon congratulated the efforts of the committee for submitting its finding within 27 days. He said that the south western districts of the Punjab are severely damage by the perennial water logging problem. He said that water logging has economically shattered the farmers of this region.

He directed the officers of the department to personally visit those areas of Ferozpur and Mukatsar Districts which are still inundated under the flood water. The Minister also asked the officers to expedite the relining process of Sirhind and Rajasthan Canals.
