Chandigarh, September 22, 2014: Sohan Singh Thandal, Jail Minister today reviewed the working and progress of all the drug de addiction centres set up in jails of the state. While presiding over a high level meeting of the jail department, he asked the Jagjit Singh Inspector General, Jails to prepare a consolidated report in this regard within in a week.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the jail department said that in a review meeting of all the superintendent jails, Minister took stock of the working of the drug de addiction centres, the number of prisoners undergoing treatment and those who have given up the use of drugs. During the discussion the day to day hurdles faced by the jail department while running the drug de addiction centres were also brought into the notice of the Minister. The spokesperson said that officers of the jail department have been asked to identify all those prisoners who have given up the use of drugs and who have shown great signs of improvement. The Minister said that the state government intended to rehablitate all these misguided youth who have now given up the use of drugs and currently lodged in jails.
In this review meeting besides Inspector General Jails all the jail superintendent of the sub jails, district jails and central jails were present.
