Fazilka, October 7, 2013: An eye donation campaign started by the local NGO – Social Welfare Society – added to its list 214th donor Hakam Chand Makkar resident of Mal Singh Gali, Fazilka.

Giving this information, Raj Kishor Kalra President informed that eyes of Hakam Chand Makkar after completing his life term on this planet earth were taken as per his will with the consent of his son-in-laws, Om Parkash and Raj Kumar and handed over to Shah Satnam Jee Green Welfare Force, Malout Branch and later prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.

Kalra told www.cityairnews.com that “As of today, the society has so far collected the eyes after death of 214 persons and have successfully transplanted to 428 persons to give the colourful light of the world."

He further said, “The society should come forward to donate eyes after death for transplantation to the needy persons. This is a magnanimous gesture which is of great benefit to the society as at least the corneal blinds can be benefited in the society while the other portions of the eye are also used for research and training purposes to develop cures for some of the common eye diseases”.
