Punjab Needs to Be Saved from Politics That Divides Hindus and Sikhs: Sukhjinder Randhawa
Randhawa says governments should focus on development, employment, education, and the issues of farmers and traders
Misuse of ED and Vigilance for Political Purposes is Wrong
Chandigarh, June 9, 2026: Senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that when governments are required to answer to the public and face questions about their performance, some resort to using investigative agencies to suppress political opponents. He stated that serious concerns are being raised today, both across the country and in Punjab, regarding the misuse of such agencies. Randhawa alleged that the AAP government is misusing the Vigilance Bureau, while the BJP is misusing the ED (Enforcement Directorate).
Questioning the action taken by the AAP government against the Trident Group factory in Barnala, Randhawa alleged that politics aimed at dividing society for electoral gains is continuously increasing. At times, efforts are made to create divisions between farmers and traders, and at other times between Hindus and Sikhs. He said such politics goes against the spirit and culture of Punjab. He asked whether Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann would explain whether Trident Group owner Rajinder Gupta is not a Hindu.
Randhawa said Punjab’s identity is not linked to any single religion, class, or community. The true strength of Punjab lies in brotherhood, a shared heritage, and mutual trust. He said this is a land that has always conveyed the message of unity and collective progress.
He further stated that Punjab can move forward only by uniting people, not by dividing them. Political parties should abandon the politics of hatred and division and instead focus on development, employment, education, and the concerns of farmers and traders. According to him, the public will now hold accountable those leaders who attempt to create divisions within society.
He added that suppressing the voice of the opposition and taking action driven by political vendetta is deeply concerning in a democracy. The public, he said, now understands that agencies are being used to divert attention from real issues.
Randhawa emphasized that the Congress Party has always stood for Punjab’s unity, harmony, and brotherhood, and will continue working to protect peace and social cohesion in the state.
