Ludhiana, December 20, 2025: National BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan today issued a heartfelt and deeply concerned press statement on the alarming deterioration of law and order in Punjab and earnestly urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to consider the imposition of President’s Rule in the state in the larger interest of public safety and constitutional governance.
Grewal said that Punjab is passing through one of its most painful and dangerous phases where ordinary citizens are living under constant fear while criminals appear to be operating with complete impunity under the present dispensation. He said that the brutal murder of a mechanic in Kandhala Sheikhan village of Hoshiarpur district is not an isolated incident but part of a deeply worrying pattern as it marks the fourth killing reported in the past seven days alone.
Grewal said that such repeated incidents of violence clearly reflect a collapse of the law and order machinery and expose the inability of the state government to protect innocent lives. He said that under the Aam Aadmi Party government criminal elements across Punjab have been emboldened and now seem fearless as shootings, murders and extortion cases are rising at an alarming pace.
Grewal told that the increasing incidents of gun violence and targeted killings indicate a complete breakdown of policing and governance especially as the present government nears the end of its tenure. He said that criminals appear to view the current regime as one that provides a conducive environment for unchecked illegal activities without fear of consequences.
Expressing deep dissatisfaction with the state administration, Grewal remarked that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann appears indifferent to public safety and has utterly failed to safeguard the lives, property and dignity of the people of Punjab. He said that the pain and anxiety of common citizens are being ignored while governance has been reduced to hollow claims and publicity.
Grewal criticized the police machinery and said that it has been unable to effectively curb criminal activities or instill a sense of security among citizens. He said that when people lose faith in the ability of the state to protect them it becomes a constitutional and moral responsibility of the Centre to step in.
Emphasising the urgency of the situation, Grewal asserted that restoring peace, public order and public confidence in Punjab now requires extraordinary and decisive measures. He said that the imposition of President’s Rule has become the need of the hour to save Punjab from slipping further into chaos and lawlessness.
Grewal further urged that strong central intervention may be supported by central security forces and if necessary assistance from the Indian Army to decisively restore law, order and the rule of law. He said that this appeal is made with love for Punjab, respect for democratic values and complete faith in the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
He said that Punjab is bleeding, its people are anxious and its future cannot be compromised. He appealed with folded hands that timely intervention today will save countless lives tomorrow and restore hope, peace and confidence among the people of Punjab.
