Chandigarh, February 3, 2014: Partap Singh Bajwa, President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) today said that Punjab was heading for doomsday on industrial front according to the information received under RTI Act. During the seven years of SAD-BJP regime as many as 18,770 industrial units have been shut down, in contrast no major new industry has been set up contrary to the claims of Punjab Government.
In a statement issued here Bajwa said that the information got from the Industries department of Punjab is shocking and revealing the true picture of industrial scenario in the state. He said that RTI information also reveals that the Progressive Punjab Investment Summit held in Mohali, a brain child of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was nothing but a publicity stunt on the people of state.
Bajwa further said that the Industry department has failed to supply information regarding the MOUs so signed by state government with Industrial houses who participated in this grand Summit at expenses of state exchequer for the commitments made on investment during the Mohali summit. The RTI activist working for PPCC, Dr. Jasdeepak Singh who had sought the information was not given any information on MoUs within stipulated time period of 35 days which means the department had no such record. He said that fact was that Sukhbir Badal had only used the summit as a publicity stunt and nothing concrete is in the pipeline.
Bajwa said that Industry department has informed that since 2007, in Amritsar district 8053 small, medium and large industrial units were closed and only 4 new medium and big industrial units have came up. In Gurdaspur district comprising Pathankot and Batala 1864 industrial units were closed and only seven medium and large sector units were set up.
Likewise, in Jalandhar district 1850 industrial units were shut down between 2007 to 2013 and 18 new industrial units were set up. In Hoshiarpur district 1240 units were closed and only three new projects came up.  Similarly in Kapurthala 1035 industrial units were shut down and only one new unit came up.
In Ludhiana which is called Manchester of India 2819 industrial units were shut down and just 11 new units came up, most of them expansion units by existing factories. In Mohali number of closed units is 348 and 18 new projects were set up. In steel city Mandi Gobindgarh 111 industrial units were closed and only five new units were set up. In Faridkot also home turf of Badal family 332 industrial units were closed and no new project came up. Nawanshahr saw the closure of 288 units and only one new plant was set up. Tarn Taran, Moga Ropar and Mansa are four districts where no industry was set up during last seven years.
In Bathinda the home constituency of Harsimrat Kaur Badal MP five units were shut down and seven new were set up. In Muktsar the home constituency of Chief Minister 768 industries was closed and only one new project is set up.
Bajwa said that Sukhbir Badal was telling white lies to the people of state regarding so called investment coming to Punjab which is far from truth. He said that majority of small scale industrial units in Punjab have closed. The hand tool industry which was a source of employment to lakhs of people is completely shut down. He said that SAD-BJP government was being run on whims and fancies and wild imagination of Sukhbir Badal who working overtime to ruin the Punjab industrially without actually giving any meaningful policy.
Bajwa asked Sukhbir Badal to explain the people of state how much investment he had received from NRIs and industrial houses he claimed to have tapped during NRI Sammelan and Progressive Punjab Investment summit.// punjab news live, punjab news online, punjab news, punjab news headlines, punjab breaking news, india news, punjab news, world news,
