Punjab Health Minister commends CGC students for donating 189 units of blood

During a Blood donation camp organized at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran 189 units of blood were collected under the supervision of Sohana Hospital, Mohali.
All the 270 registered students were tested for immune compatibility and infectious agents. Punjab’s Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Balbir Singh Sidhu while motivating and appreciating the students of CGC Landran for taking active part in the noble cause said “Blood Donation is a dignified act and each one of us must take a step forward to help the ones in need. It is one amongst those precious jewels which can’t be produced in any factory.”
While sharing useful insights about Blood, Dr.Gurmeet Singh, Lab Director at Sohana Hospital said, “Unlike India, which has a clear shortage of blood supply, the state of Punjab is amongst the highest proportion of excess blood units in India. This is because of the fact that the eligible donor population of Punjab is socially very active and there have been instances in the past that NGO’s from other states organise camps here in Punjab to overcome the Blood shortage. The tentative life of Red Blood cells is 35 days only which is supplied to the patient either in the case of an emergency or during a planned surgery on the basis of first-in-first-out (FIFO) criterion.”
Reiterating CGC’s commitment towards sensitizing and inspiring students to serve the society, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC Landran and Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC Landran, appreciated the spirit of the blood donors at the camp.
