Chandigarh, November 4, 2014: The Health department of Punjab was all set to take preventive measures to control the rise in the number of the vector borne diseases in Punjab. The doctors have been sensitized to tackle the occurrence of dengue in the state. Larvae surveillance activities have been enhanced with the close coordination of district and town administrations across the state.
Stating this here today, Punjab Health Minister Surjit Kumar Jayani said that the diagnostic tests of suspected dengue cases in the laboratories of the government hospitals would be done free of cost with sophisticated NSI Antigen and IgM Mac Elisa kits. Blood samples would also be collected free of cost, said Jayani. The Minister has also directed all concerned officers to reinforce their efforts for dengue control in Punjab. Special dengue wards at every district and sub divisional levels have been thoroughly covered with mosquito nets.
Jayani also said that special teams of doctors have also been constituted so that each department engaged in this task would be reviewed separately time to time, besides extensive follow-ups to keep the surroundings clean as much as possible. Meanwhile the Minister has also asked the elected representatives to actively participate in public awareness activities in their respective areas. He also stressed for initiating community orientation activities to raise awareness among general public about dengue control methods.
The Health Minister also said that breeding checkers have been employed in 40 towns of Punjab during the year 2014-15 for checking and destroying the breeding habitats. Besides this the insecticides for prevention and control of mosquito breeding have already been procured and would be distributed to all the districts shortly. Sprays of insecticides have also been started where even a single case of dengue is reported. As compared to last year’s dengue reported cases of 2514, this year because of the effective and well planned preventive measures taken by the state government only 241 cases have been reported so far, said Jayani.
