Punjab govt approves Rs 13.36 crores mega sewerage project for historic Sri Bhaini Sahib village

Ludhiana, March 24, 2026: The Punjab government has accorded approval to a major sewerage scheme worth Rs 1335.89 lakh for the historic village of Sri Bhaini Sahib in Sahnewal constituency of Ludhiana district.
The project envisages laying of 1.80 Km of Main/Intercepting Sewer and 18.13 Km of Lateral Sewer, along with 670 house connections. It also includes the construction of one Main Pumping Station and a 1.0 MLD capacity Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).
The demand for this project was jointly raised by the Village Panchayat and the Sri Bhaini Sahib Sect Management Committee through a formal letter to the Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian seeking a complete new sewer network and water supply pipes in the village streets.
Taking cognizance of the long-pending demand, the Minister along with the Principal Secretary and senior officers of the department visited the village on January 9, 2026. During the visit, it was brought to the notice of the Minister that the existing sewer system was laid by the department nearly 24 years ago in 2001-02. Due to a significant increase in population over the years, the old sewer lines are no longer capable of handling the present sewage load, and the village does not have any Sewerage Treatment Plant. The Panchayat and the Sect committee therefore strongly demanded a fresh, comprehensive sewerage system for the entire village along with an STP.
