Punjab Government undertaking major initiatives for women empowerment: Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora

Ludhiana, April 5, 2026: Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora on Sunday reiterated that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has been taking significant steps in women empowerment.
Participating in the Punjab Happiness and Wellness Utsav organised at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan here, Arora announced that the government is set to launch the ambitious Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana — a landmark scheme aimed at providing direct financial assistance to women. Registrations for the scheme will commence on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi on April 13. Under the scheme, eligible women aged 18 years and above will receive Rs 1,000 per month directly into their bank accounts. Women belonging to the Scheduled Castes category will get an enhanced amount of Rs 1,500 per month.
Arora highlighted that the state government is already providing free bus travel to women, which has significantly boosted their mobility and independence. He added that the new scheme will further strengthen economic empowerment by putting money directly into women’s hands. He also spoke about various other welfare schemes implemented by the government for the holistic empowerment of women in Punjab.
Expressing gratitude to the organisers of the event, Arora appreciated their ongoing efforts towards women’s upliftment, particularly through beauty and stitching training programmes that help women acquire valuable skills and become self-reliant.
Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Mayor Inderjit Kaur, Simmi Pashan, District Planning Board chairman Jatinder Singh Khangura, Sharanpal Singh Makkar and others.
Before this event, the Cabinet Minister also inaugurated Thind Eye Hospital, opposite Wave Mall, Ferozepur Road, here.
