Khanna, October 17, 2026: Punjab Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond said that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to providing documentary recognition of home ownership to families who have been living within the Lal Lakir (red line) of villages for generations. He said that the ‘Mera Ghar, Mere Naam’ scheme is an important initiative for families who previously lacked clear documents establishing ownership of their homes.
The Cabinet Minister was addressing a gathering while distributing property cards to 115 beneficiaries in Kot Sekhon village of the Khanna Assembly constituency. Congratulating the beneficiaries, he said that receiving official documentation of ownership of a home built through years of hard work is a moment of pride and satisfaction for every family. The initiative not only provides documentary recognition of families’ existing rights but is also significant for their future generations.
Tarunpreet Singh Sond said that many families living within the Lal Lakir had occupied their homes for a long time but faced difficulties in various property-related matters due to the absence of clear ownership records. He said the government aims to address these difficulties effectively and provide residents with documents relating to their homes.
The Cabinet Minister explained that records containing details of property boundaries, area and ownership have been prepared through surveys and digital mapping. This process provides documented identification of properties and related information, making it easier for residents to establish their ownership rights.
Sond said that possession of ownership documents could help families apply for loans, subject to the applicable terms and conditions of banks, and complete legal procedures related to property transactions. Such documents may also help improve access to financial opportunities for children's higher education, business expansion and other family needs.
The Cabinet Minister said that the survey and record-preparation process under the scheme is being carried out in phases. He emphasised that accuracy of details and transparency are essential to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive property cards based on correct records. He added that the distribution of cards would continue as the necessary procedures are completed in different villages.
Tarunpreet Singh Sond said that families living within the Lal Lakir had faced difficulties for a long time in obtaining documentary proof of ownership. He alleged that previous governments had not shown the required seriousness in resolving these issues. He said the Mann government is prioritising solutions to problems affecting people's everyday lives, and the distribution of property cards is an important step in this direction.
The Cabinet Minister said that his priority is to serve the people of the Khanna Assembly constituency and Punjab, accelerate development works and ensure that eligible families benefit from government facilities.
He reiterated that the Punjab Government would continue to work with people's needs at the centre of its policies and would keep advancing the process of providing property cards to eligible families under the ‘Mera Ghar, Mere Naam’ scheme.
