Deputy Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Jai Krishan Singh Rouri on Saturday said that Punjab Government Led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to making the state a frontrunner in the field of sports as the state government has already taken a series of initiatives to flourish sports culture in the state. He was presiding over a volleyball tournament organized by Gujjar Youth Club here at Jain Colony, Rahon Road, Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, December 2, 2023: Deputy Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Jai Krishan Singh Rouri on Saturday said that Punjab Government Led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to making the state a frontrunner in the field of sports as the state government has already taken a series of initiatives to flourish sports culture in the state. He was presiding over a volleyball tournament organized by Gujjar Youth Club here at Jain Colony, Rahon Road, Ludhiana.


 
Accompanied by MLA Daljeet Singh Bhola Grewal, Ashoke Prashar Pappi, Chairman Improvement Trust Tarsem Singh Bhinder, the deputy speaker said that the state government has massively increased sports budget to restore the pristine glory of sports culture in the state. The government has taken this expenditure on sports to Rs. 250 crore from a tiny figure of only Rs. 50 crore, he said, adding that the players preparing for national and international competitions are also getting requisite funds for proper preparation so that they can bring laurels to the country.  He also lashed out at previous governments for ignoring the interests of sportspersons and heavily cutting on sports budget, which led to lagging behind in the field of sports.
 
He further mentioned that the Punjab Government has launched a unique initiative namely `Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian’ wherein people from across the state have actively participated and won medals in this mega event. This event has registered massive success in the field of sports channelizing the energy of youngsters to become successful in sports, he said, adding that sports not only infuse a sense of discipline and sportsmanship but also wean away youth from drug menace.
 
Meanwhile, he lauded the efforts of NGOs for promoting sports culture in the state, especially in rural areas. He also announced a grant of worth Rs. one lakh for the organizers besides assuring fulsome support in all their future endeavors.
