Punjab government announces to create 10000 self-employment opportunities for youth in tourism sector

Chandigarh, September 27, 2019: 'On World Tourism Day' the Punjab Government has announced to create 10000 self-employment opportunities for the Youth in the tourism Industry. In a press statement issued here today the Tourism & Cultural Affairs Minister Charnajit Singh Channi has said that this would not only help in attracting tourist in the state but would also empower Youth of the state. The Minister also said that the Punjab Government would develop 15 properties of the tourism department as world class tourist attractions to promote tourism in the state. These properties include Amaltas Hotel, Ludhiana, Silver Oak Tourist Complex, Malout, Pinckassia Tourist Complex at Ropar, Kadamba Tourist Complex, Nangal, Surajmukhi Tourist Complex, Khanauri, Tourist Oasis, Ludhiana, Hotel Blue Bell, Phagwara, Lajwanti Filling Station, Hoshiarpur, Bougainvillia Floating Restaurant, Sirhind, Magnolia Tourist Complex Kartarpur, Tourist Complex–Chohal Dam, Hoshiarpur, Ethnic Centre at Chamkaur Sahib, Tourist Reception Centre Anandpur Sahib, Land at village Treti, Shahpur Kandi, District Pathankot, IHM Boothgarh District Mohali. The Minister said that most of these properties are located on very beautiful natural locations if they are developed they would easily attract tourist from all over the world. He also said that he had already asked the officials of the department to chalk out the blue print to develop these properties. Channi also said that the tourism department would also take concrete steps to promote Farm Tourism in the state. As the department has launched high-end Bed & Breakfast Scheme, with the aim to provide comfortable home stay facilities as per international standards to tourists and to supplement the availability of accommodation in and around tourist destinations. The idea is to provide a clean and affordable place for domestic and international tourists providing them an opportunity to stay with Indian families to experience the traditions and culture of Punjab and savour Punjabi cuisine. 'For home owners, who have the interest and house of a suitable size and requisite standards, this can be useful source of additional income, as well as an enjoyable business activity, so far, around 100 units have been registered with the Department under the Scheme', added Channi. The Minister also informed that the on the occasion of world tourism day department organised Heritage walk in Amritsar in which students and visitors participated. A Patiala heritage walk was also organised in Patiala in which students and visitors participated. The department in order to facilitate foreign tourists started a batch of 27 tour guides and tourist operators imparting them training to in foreign language (French) through the Guru Nanak Dev University and an Inter school/Inter college Declamation contest was organised at Virasat-e-khalsa on the occasion of World Tourism Day 2019.
